Three days ago I was told I have to build mechanical ventilation before I'm allowed to sell a beer at my axe throwing range. That's 20,000 to 150,000 francs. Then, on Monday morning, the same office emailed me and said I don't need any of it.
This is part 3 of To Beer or Not to Beer.
The government architect said don't bother. My own architect said don't bother. My mum, who has run more businesses than I have, said listen to them. The police said that if I keep selling beer without the permits they'll shut the business down. I've spent the last two or three months going through six different bodies anyway, because the drinks are not a side business to me — when there's a beer in the fridge the revenue of the whole range goes up about 15%, and that's not just the beer, it's every drink in the place.
In this one: why alcohol-free beer and alcohol-free champagne completely failed (one bottle sold in nine months), why my concept is deliberately the simplest one they've ever been handed — cans out of a fridge, plastic cups, no dishwasher, no bar — what the office came back and demanded, the weekend my mum and I spent working out how to tell them no, and the email that undid all of it in one morning.
One body left: my renters have to sign. If they do, I pick the papers up and hand them in on Thursday.
I still don't know how this ends. Neither do you.
