The Romanian Revolution, 1989

A chaotic beginning, and a chaotic ending. Song: Krypton - Fata Morgana From 1974, Romania became a country at the behest of Nicolae Ceausescu. What nobody realised was the fact that this man would become the puppeteer behind the backs of the entire Romanian population. As soon as he set his grip on every major interest of Romanian society, he took to seizing any policy that conflicted with his - utilising his Securitate to threatening volumes and attempting to 'keep people in check', effectively creating a cult-of-personality and broadcasting it upon the Romanian nation. After 15 years of economic decline, mismanagement by the Ceausescu regime and a brutalist, hard-lined, ideology it all came to the madman's feet - the control of the country shifted tides, but the killings never stopped. 1989 saw Bucharest engulf - literal tens-of-thousands marched with their flags and intent in hand, an intent that sought to completely collapse the social system; some saw the light at the end of the tunnel, others saw the light at the end of a rifle. On Christmas Day, 1989, Ceausescu's reign was finally over.
