Florida flood warning update for October 18–19, 2026: The St. Johns River near Astor is rising as persistent coastal winds slow drainage, while South Florida deals with recent heavy rainfall and a separate Atlantic coastal storm develops near the Carolinas.
In this Extreme Weather Report, we break down the flood warning affecting Lake and Volusia counties, the recent flash flood threat along Florida's southeastern coast, and the coastal weather pattern affecting parts of the eastern United States.
ST. JOHNS RIVER FLOOD WARNING
According to the National Weather Service, the St. Johns River near Astor reached 2.9 feet at 8:30 PM EDT on October 18, above the local flood stage of 2.3 feet. Forecasters projected a rise toward 3.3 feet early in the week, with moderate flooding possible.
SOUTH FLORIDA HEAVY RAIN
Earlier in the weekend, the Weather Prediction Center highlighted localized flash flood concerns along the I-95 corridor, including areas near West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Miami. Some forecast models indicated the potential for very heavy localized rainfall, but those projections should not be confused with confirmed rainfall totals.
ATLANTIC COASTAL STORM
A separate non-tropical coastal storm near the Carolinas is bringing concerns about onshore winds, rough surf, coastal flooding and beach erosion along vulnerable sections of the East Coast.
HURRICANE ISAIAS: RECENT CONTEXT
Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin, Florida, on October 9 as a Category 2 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of approximately 105 mph. Its Gulf Coast impacts were geographically separate from the current St. Johns River and South Florida flood concerns.
