When the monstrous Typhon rose to destroy Olympus, even the gods fled in terror. Pan leapt into the Nile to escape and transformed into a strange hybrid: half-goat, half-fish. This form allowed him to survive, and Zeus later honored his courage by placing the sea-goat in the stars as Capricorn.
