Welcome back to African Family Homestead ❤️🇺🇬
Join us for another beautiful afternoon of real and authentic African village life as Mama Jane prepares a delicious traditional lunch of freshly harvested yams, eggplant sauce and silver fish while work continues on our new chicken and duck house.
Today’s video begins at 12:12 PM in our peaceful African village in Uganda.
Our afternoon starts with little Fudel Moses helping around the homestead by sweeping the compound. ❤️
Meanwhile, Mama Jane begins preparing lunch for the family. She carefully washes fresh yams harvested from our garden, removes the remaining dirt and washes them again until they are clean.
She then prepares fresh eggplants, cutting them into pieces for a delicious homemade sauce.
While Mama Jane is busy preparing lunch, work continues on our new poultry house. The workers begin installing wooden planks to create a raised floor for our chickens and ducks.
We are slowly improving our homestead using locally available materials, and every small step brings us closer to completing a comfortable home for our birds.
Back in the outdoor kitchen, Mama Jane lights the fire and begins cooking the eggplant sauce.
She fries the eggplants and adds silver fish, locally known as mukene, to make a delicious sauce for the family.
On the second cooking fire, our freshly harvested yams are boiling and getting ready to be served.
Mama Jane adds Rayco seasoning to her sauce, giving it more flavour as everything continues cooking.
And just when we think it’s another ordinary afternoon, our neighbour’s dog decides to pay our family a little visit
We also take a moment to show you our beautiful maize garden.
The maize plants are growing well and have already started producing cobs. We are grateful to see our garden progressing and look forward to the coming harvest.
Meanwhile, there is more exciting progress on our chicken and duck house!
The raised wooden floor is finally complete, bringing us another step closer to finishing this important project for our homestead.
As the afternoon continues, Mama Jane finishes cooking and removes the food from the traditional cooking stones.
She serves the freshly cooked yams alongside the delicious eggplant and silver fish sauce.
Finally, our family gathers together to enjoy a simple, homemade African village lunch.
These are the moments that make our village life special.
From growing our own food and preparing traditional meals to working together and improving our homestead, every day brings something beautiful.
Our life may be simple, but it is filled with love, hard work, togetherness and gratitude.
