Imitate Jesus rescue the world

Jesus rescues the world by building a new family that is like himself. His character, His concerns, His courage, His willingness to suffer for others. The Holy Spirit creates a body by calling each believer to a different task. No one is superior, but there are roles and responsibilities. The work of the Church is to equip people for the ministry the Father asks them to do today. That ministry might change, or it might be a lifelong calling. The Apostles were church planting missionaries. They had a full range of spiritual gifts and the ability to fully establish the Church in a new area. These congregations saw how Peter, Paul, John, James, Barnabas, Timothy and Titus worked. Then the apostles quickly pulled the believers into ministry the day they joined the faith. They were baptized quickly, likely be each other. Then began the process of cleaning up the lives of the new believers, learning new skills, growing in the knowledge and capacity to love God and love their neighbor. It was deeply important that they were cleansed from all rebellion, pride, lust, envy and jealously. They could backslide, fall away and be lost forever. If they backslid, Paul would lose the reward of their presence in the resurrection. They would suffer the torment of being given exactly what they said they wanted more than Jesus.
