3. In Lecture 2 of Mastering CPC, we begin with a basic question: what makes a civil suit? A suit is more than a plaint filed in court. To understand how it is framed, we will look at six essentials: Cause of action — the facts that give a person the right to sue. 1. Parties — the persons who bring the claim and those against whom it is brought. 2. Title of the suit — how the suit and its parties are identified. 3. Subject matter — the property, right, or dispute before the court. 4. Matter in issue — the questions the court must decide. 5. Relief — what the plaintiff asks the court to grant. We will work through these concepts with simple illustrations and see how each one matters when drafting and reading a plaint. This video is an edited part of my live CPC classes.
