The Blue Train: A birthday surprise

Join us as we take a train trip on The Blue Train, that turned out to be a surprise for me. My wife told me that she had arranged for us to go to Cape Town for a few days for my birthday. She told me that we were going to stay in one hotel for the first night, before transferring to an upmarket hotel for two nights. Apparently it was too expensive to spend all three nights in the upper crust hotel. I was a bit perplexed about how grand the second hotel was going to be, as the first one wasn’t one to be sneezed at in the first place. I absolutely love being in Cape Town. I worked in the city for 10 years and started making little plans in my head about all the places I would go and see again in the city for old times’ sake. I also thought that perhaps we could fit in a visit or two with friends we had not seen in a long time. After returning from the Waterfront, she handed me a folded wad of A4 pages just after midnight and bid me a happy birthday. This was one of those birthdays where the front digit changes and then you suddenly start taking stock of your life. Yeah! The visit that she planned to Cape Town for us, was thus something that I was very flexible about. I am of the view that when there is something big happening in your life and you have people that love you, be lekke easy. There is absolutely no benefit for you or them, for you to start getting curious and poking your nose into things and derailing everything. I read the “love letter” on the front of the pages and then unfolded the pages. Fortunately I was sitting on the bed, so my jaw didn’t drop to the floor and roll away, but it was a close run thing! The pages were the itinerary for the next three days aboard The Blue Train! We had to be at Cape Town station at 10H30 later that very morning. Since I have started making video recordings of whatever interests me, I have my cameras with me most times. Unfortunately, making videos does not come naturally to me, so I am not really able to point a camera at something and start spouting gems about whatever it is on the other side of the lens. I started cramming Blue Train information right away and even then, the video is going to be a bit low on the 1 to 10 scale. At least I managed to get some information into my pip. I don’t know why I wrote this long description. Nobody that I know actually reads it, but if you did, won’t you please be so kind and leave a note to that effect in the comments? Please?
