Just French composers making fun of other composers

Parodying another composer's work seems to be quite a French thing which isn't surprising considering their strong emphasis on stylistic imitation exercises and love for satire and absurdity. The main victims are pianistic exercises by Czerny and Clementi which are a rite of passage for every pianist but transfigured into figures of beauty in the case of Koechlin and Debussy or simply comically reframed by Satie and Saint-Saëns.
