Master Your Left Hand Technique Against the Jazz Ride

This video isn't about basic left hand independence, it's about mastering the left hand as a vehicle of expression. To play anything you want with the left hand against the Jazz ride figure takes excellent technique, relaxation, and confidence in execution. In this lesson, John Hvasta shows you his approach to the techniques that can help you master the left hand in Jazz drumming beyond the basics typically taught in lessons involving drumming independence. It's not just about independence, after all. It's about expression and knowing that what you hear and feel can be translated to the drums spontaneously as you're playing, no matter the tempo, no matter the situation. As John says, "You be you." Find out how to make sure your left hand plays like the left hand that's most "you".
