5. The Seasons Know, The Barrow Gang | Twenty Years Written in the Turning Earth

Years do not always announce themselves. Sometimes they pass in harvests, winters, new sandals, deeper voices, and grey beginning to show in someone’s hair. “The Seasons Know” follows Penelope as she stops measuring Odysseus’s absence in numbers and begins measuring it in everything changing around her. Telemachus grows from a child into a young man. Laertes grows older. The vines climb, the olives ripen, the leaves fall, and the courtyard blooms again. Ithaca keeps moving even when part of Penelope still feels frozen on the day Odysseus left. This is a song about time refusing to stop for grief. About surviving long enough to realise that endurance is not standing still—it is continuing to live while carrying what never stopped hurting.
