Stechelberg – Mürren Luftseilbahn A ride on the spectacular Stechelberg–Mürren cable car in the Bernese Oberland, Switzerland – the World’s Steepest aerial cableway. Part of the SCHILTHORNBAHN 20XX project, this direct cable car climbs from Stechelberg to the mountain village of Mürren. The line is 1,194 metres long and overcomes an impressive vertical difference of 775 metres, reaching a maximum gradient of 159.4%. Each of the two cabins can carry up to 85 passengers. Travelling at up to 7 m/s, the journey between Stechelberg and Mürren takes just 3 minutes and 54 seconds. The cable car was built by Garaventa/Doppelmayr and also plays an important role in supplying the car-free village of Mürren, carrying goods beneath the passenger cabins.
