High Cascade Blacktail Hunt 2024

A unique early season deer hunt along the Cascade crest in Oregon. This year I was solo in my effort to find a high country buck. This is a DIY public land backcountry hunt. For five days and four nights I never crossed paths with another hunter or human, yet I was never more than 5 or 6 miles from a trailhead. Which shows it doesn't take much to get away from the crowds if you're willing to put in a little effort. Wasn't lucky enough to fill my tag on this one, but I had two separate run-ins with some bull Elk that were a major milestone for me personally. I'm a late-onset hunter and these were my first experiences being so close, within 150yds at one point, and yet the Elk had no knowledge of my presence. Being solo on a backcountry hunt is also a very unique experience in itself, the silence can be deafening at times. Hopefully I was able to capture some of that in this video.
