Geronimo is probably the most famous Apache chief and one of the most known Native Americans in history. Born as Goyahkla (“The One Who Yawns”), he was part of the Bedonkohe band of the Chiricahua Apache tribe. Geronimo is best known for leading Apache resistance and wars against Mexico and the United States. He was a medicine man and a warrior. The history of the Apache tribes is a complicated one.
