In the main trial, 22 high-ranking leaders were charged with various counts related to crimes against peace, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. For months, prosecutors presented signed orders, military reports, photographs, motion pictures, and administrative records that made it possible to reconstruct how many of the Third Reich's criminal policies had been organized and executed from different levels of government. Among the most shocking revelations was the evidence concerning the Holocaust and the systematic persecution of European Jews and other target groups. SS documents and witness testimonies detailed the logistics of forced deportations, mass shootings carried out by the Einsatzgruppen, and the operational system of concentration camps. Details also came to light regarding the forced labor of millions of people from occupied territories, the mistreatment of prisoners of war, and the economic exploitation of conquered regions. While many of these atrocities were already partially known, Nuremberg enabled the consolidation of an immense body of evidence within an international judicial framework. The trials further demonstrated the extent to which the war of aggression had been deliberately planned. The prosecution submitted documentation regarding Germany's territorial expansion plans, the decisions preceding the invasions of Poland and the Soviet Union, and high-level strategy meetings between political and military officials. Criminal orders related to the Eastern Campaign, the summary execution of specific captives, and the repression of civilian populations were similarly scrutinized. The evidence illustrated how decisions rendered at the highest echelons translated into direct orders executed by military, police, and administrative units on the ground. Nuremberg also established a vital precedent for international law: state leaders could be held personally accountable for specific crimes, even when claiming to have acted under superior orders. Although the proceedings did not resolve every question surrounding World War II nor prosecute every crime committed during the conflict, they forged an extraordinary documentary record of the Nazi regime. The discoveries presented before the tribunal helped expose the true scale of its criminal policies, establishing the Nuremberg Trials as one of the most landmark judicial proceedings of the twentieth century. 🎵Music Played on this video & Channel: 'Catalyst' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. www.scottbuckley.com.au 'Goliath' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. www.scottbuckley.com.au 'The Long Dark' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. www.scottbuckley.com.au 'Discovery' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. www.scottbuckley.com.au 'Emergent' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. www.scottbuckley.com.au 'Rise Above' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. www.scottbuckley.com.au 'This Too Shall Pass' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. www.scottbuckley.com.au 'Chasing Daylight' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. www.scottbuckley.com.au 'Vanguard' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. www.scottbuckley.com.au 'Ignis' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. www.scottbuckley.com.au 'The Vision' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. www.scottbuckley.com.au 'The Spaces Between' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. www.scottbuckley.com.au 'Ascension' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. www.scottbuckley.com.au 'The Call' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. www.scottbuckley.com.au 'Terminus' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. www.scottbuckley.com.au
