Hengām Ensemble - Mahoor Concert (Kings Place, Jan 2024)

The Hengām Ensemble was founded in London in 2023 by artists residing in the city under the direction of Pouyan Biglar, with the primary focus on Iranian classical music, particularly the Dastgāh tradition. Its musical mission is to introduce global audiences to the richness of Iranian Dastgāh music, one of the Middle East's most significant musical systems. Deeply rooted in Iran's millennia-old musical heritage, this tradition is distinct from the music of neighbouring countries, particularly in its orchestration and musical intervals. A core tenet of the Hengām Ensemble is the fusion of authenticity and adaptability in its musical approach. This principle is anchored in the belief that music, as a vital cultural pillar, should preserve its historical essence to evolve meaningfully. As Iranian musicians, the members of the Hengām Ensemble consider it their responsibility to safeguard these traditions while introducing them to a wider, non-Iranian audience.
