You Can’t Lead From Behind a Desk

Leadership doesn’t happen from behind a desk. In my conversation with UNC Chancellor Lee Roberts, we talked about Patton’s “directed telescope” and the importance of building informal networks that help leaders understand what’s really happening inside an organization. Roberts put it simply: you have to get out of your office and talk to people. People need to see you.
