A physical phenomenon occurs independently of the mathematical language used to describe it. A mathematical representation, by contrast, is a constructed description in which symbols, quantities, relations, equations, geometrical forms, or computational structures are used to organize measurements and express regularities. This paper examines the distinction between physical occurrence and mathematical description using the author's two books, THE UNIVERSE and The Universe Univocally, as its primary sources. The analysis begins from the source books' methodological priority of Nature, observation, measurement, explicit premises, deduction, and limitation. It then examines what a mathematical representation contributes: precision, comparison, calculation, prediction, communication, and testing. The paper does not argue that mathematics is secondary or unimportant. It instead proposes a narrower distinction: mathematical validity does not by itself establish the physical identity of every mathematical object appearing in a description. A symbol acquires physical meaning through its definition, measurement, operational use, or explicitly stated theoretical assumption. An equation can therefore represent a physical relationship without itself becoming the physical phenomenon. The distinction is applied to simple examples of position, velocity, acceleration, momentum, and orbital description. No particular cosmological theory is required for the analysis. The paper concludes that disciplined inquiry requires three levels to remain distinguishable: the physical event, the measured quantities and definitions used to describe it, and the mathematical representation constructed from them.
