Sailor’s Song by J. Haydn (Duo CPE)

Sailor’s Song by J. Haydn (Duo CPE) A jolly canzonetta that captures the whimsy of this era Despite encountering “hurly-burly” and dangerous adventures, our valiant sailor chooses optimism in his patriotic duty. The brilliant keyboard part captures this pompous but silly character as he is happily rocked about in open water. Austrian composer J. Haydn was a temporary visitor in England but he dove headfirst into the London music scene, setting this poem (by Anne Hunter) with the levity, which defined the Galant era and for which he is still beloved today.
