Homestead diary: Gathering Firewood, Wild Herbs & Forest Walks

A peaceful insight into the daily rhythms of village life. Preparing for the seasons is an essential part of living close to nature. Today, we are collecting firewood for the winter from a newly restored forest road, which doubles as a vital firebreak to protect both the village and the environment from future wildfires. While walking through the woods, I take the time to gather healing St. John's wort (wild herbs), pinecones, and twigs to use as kindling for my future outdoor garden cooking. Along the way, we enjoy the sound of fresh running water and get a glimpse of a beautiful wild turtle enjoying the morning quiet.
