As of Sunday evening, May 24, 2026, the Sandy Fire in Simi Valley has grown to 2,183 acres and is 75% contained. Note: (initially referred to by some residents as the Sand Fire)
Driven by erratic Santa Ana winds, the fast-moving brush fire broke out just before 11:00 AM on Monday May 18, 2026 near the 600 block of Sandy Avenue, destroying at least one residential home on Trickling Brook Court and threatening thousands of other structures. Investigators suspect the fire may have been accidentally sparked when a tractor clearing brush hit a rock. More than 750 firefighters have been assigned to the fire, supported by air tankers and helicopters & are actively engaging in structure defense.
