A webinar focusing on the theme of landscape art and mental wellbeing. Andy Friend, Writer and Curator, explores the art of John Nash. From comic and botanical illustration to war art and the depiction of landscape in paintings, wood engravings and lithographs, John Nash was a prolific artist over six decades – but also a person whose life and relationships were impacted by trauma as a child, as a soldier and as a father. These experiences – and his periodic depression – are not always apparent on the face of his art, but nevertheless both animated and shaped it in a variety of ways which this talk will explore. Landscape Art and Mental Wellbeing was a British Art Network event, held on 31st March 2021. The Landscape Research Group is part of the British Art Network, led and supported by Tate and the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art, with public funding provided by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. https://www.tate.org.uk/research/brit...
