Teutonic Order Metal – Fratres in Glacie | Battle on the Ice 1242

A historical Teutonic Order Metal composition inspired by the Battle on the Ice of 1242, fought on Lake Peipus between the forces of Novgorod and the crusading forces of the Livonian branch of the Teutonic Order. On 5 April 1242, the armies met during the Livonian Crusade. The defeat became one of the most famous military setbacks suffered by the Teutonic Order in the Baltic. The Livonian Rhymed Chronicle, written by a member of the Teutonic Order, includes an account of the battle. Fratres in Glacie transforms this historical confrontation into a brutal fusion of modern metal and medieval European music: crushing guitars, thunderous drums, deep male vocals, battle choirs, medieval instruments and Medieval Latin.
