Making the Best Better: How Analysts Support Decision-Making in High Performance Sport A behind the scenes look at how data analysts have impacted some of the worlds best sporting performances. This session will unearth hidden stories of how analytical insight has changed the fortunes of sports teams from also-rans to world beaters, and some lessons from when decisions have gone wrong under the massive pressures of elite level sport. We will cover the evolving role of data analysts in high performance sport, including a close look at the different types of uncertainty they face, and how the best practitioners match the analytical method to the type of uncertainty. There will be also be a focus on the craft of managing the dynamic between analysts and decision makers, and the inevitable tension between intuitive and data driven approaches when trying to make decisions with imperfect information.
