Why do we forget most of what we study?
Why can some people memorize hundreds of numbers, remember entire decks of cards and learn difficult concepts more effectively?
And most importantly, can an ordinary person train their memory and become a better learner?
In this video, I'll teach you the STICK Learning Method — a practical 5-step framework to improve memory, remember what you study, learn new skills and apply knowledge in real life.
We'll explore the incredible story of six-time USA Memory Champion Nelson Dellis, the science of retrieval practice, and the fascinating case of Henry Molaison, a man who could improve at a skill without consciously remembering his practice.
Plus, you'll participate in a 20-item memory challenge and learn a visual storytelling technique to help remember information in the correct order.
---
THE STICK LEARNING METHOD
S — STORY & VISUALIZE
Turn information into memorable mental images and stories.
Memory champions use techniques such as the Memory Palace to associate information with familiar places.
Instead of memorizing random words separately, connect them through unusual visual stories.
Especially useful for remembering lists and sequences.
T — TEST YOURSELF
Reading something repeatedly doesn't guarantee you'll remember it.
Research by Henry Roediger and Jeffrey Karpicke demonstrated the benefits of retrieval practice for long-term remembering.
After studying, close your book and ask:
What did I learn?
Can I explain it without looking?
What were the three main ideas?
Active recall helps strengthen memory.
I — IMPLEMENT
Knowing something and being able to do it are different skills.
Henry Molaison struggled to form new long-term memories after brain surgery, yet improved at mirror-drawing through practice.
The lesson?
Don't just read about swimming. Swim.
Don't just study communication. Communicate.
Convert knowledge into action.
C — CORRECT
Practice alone isn't always enough.
Identify mistakes, collect feedback and improve your next attempt.
For example, record yourself practising public speaking.
Notice what needs improvement.
Then practise again.
PRACTICE → FEEDBACK → CORRECTION → PRACTICE
K — KEEP REPEATING
Want to remember something for months instead of days?
Use spaced practice.
Instead of studying everything in one long session, spread learning and recall across multiple days.
Learn today.
Test yourself tomorrow.
Recall again after a few days.
Review after a week.
Combine spaced repetition with active recall for stronger retention.

THE 20-ITEM MEMORY CHALLENGE
At the beginning of this video, you'll see 20 random words and numbers.
Your challenge?
Remember all 20 in the EXACT order.
Later, I'll teach you a strange mental movie designed to make the sequence easier to remember.
Try the challenge before and after learning the technique.
Comment your final score out of 20!
