Cycling across the Alps - Munich to Venice Part 3, April 2024 Our Brompton Challenge from Munich to Venice. Is it possible to cross the Alps with harsh conditions? Or is it madness? Part 3 - Dobbiaco/Toblach to Cortina d’Ampezzo Gosh! It must be madness! Snow in the middle of spring! At least that’s what crossed our minds when we unexpectedly encountered snow on our uphill bike path several times. The last uphill stretch was long and arduous. We had to push on slush and be careful not to step on ice with our bikes which now felt like they weigh a ton! Snow disappeared on the last 10km downhill path but it was loose gravel most of the way. Oh our poor bikes and bodies are all shaken and stirred! It’s a marvel that no one had any flats with the gravel flying everywhere. However this most difficult stretch is also the most beautiful part of the trip with the most awesome scenery. Glad that we all reached Cortina safely with morale still high as we all anticipated the next day, our sightseeing day will be fantastic. What an epic journey thus far!
