Long before it was a modern capital, this was a small oasis village on the Silk Road: mudbrick houses beside an irrigation canal, camel caravans passing through, bread baked in clay ovens. In 1219, Genghis Khan's army destroyed it. It was slowly rebuilt, and by around 1570 its wealth funded the Kukeldash Madrasah, the largest in the city, built by the vizier known as "Kukeldash." Over the following centuries the madrasa itself became a caravanserai, then a fortress, as Tashkent faced raiders and, in the 19th century, was reconquered by the Khanate of Kokand. In 1865, after a siege, the city surrendered to Russia and became the capital of Russian Turkestan. Soviet rule nationalized its bazaar into state trade networks - then, on 26 April 1966, a magnitude-5.2 earthquake destroyed 84,000 apartments and left roughly 300,000 people homeless. Construction brigades from across the USSR rebuilt the city in about 3.5 years, and in 1980 architects Vladimir Azimov and Sabir Adylov designed the 80-meter turquoise dome that still crowns Chorsu Bazaar today.
This fixed-camera historical timelapse follows one canal-side street from a Silk Road oasis to a 21st-century bazaar. Watch the Kukeldash Madrasah go up under construction and stand complete, turn into a fortress as the district arms itself, take earthquake damage under Kokand rule, get repaired under Russian colonial administration, and finally stand restored beside the completed Chorsu dome as independent Uzbekistan's modern bazaar.
I used several professional AI tools, editing and post-production to create this reconstruction from one locked camera position. The canal line, street axis and horizon stay fixed while buildings, transport, clothing, weather and daily life change with history.
Please note: this is an artistic historical reconstruction, not archival footage. Dates and events (the 1219 Mongol destruction, the c.1570 Kukeldash Madrasah, the 1865 Siege of Tashkent, the 1966 earthquake, the 1980 Chorsu dome design) were researched and sourced, but a 1,175-year story necessarily compresses time between confirmed dates and uses interpretive visual details. War and destruction (the Mongol invasion, the 1966 earthquake) are portrayed without graphic violence.
ENJOY!!!

How it's made:
✔ Researched the historical and architectural phases of the Kukeldash Madrasa and Chorsu Bazaar
✔ Designed 28 historical checkpoint frames from one locked composition
✔ Animated life clips and dedicated historical timelapses between checkpoints
✔ Verified every delivered clip's last frame against its checkpoint image by pixel comparison
✔ Created transparent English title and year-counter overlays for every clip, with a fixed text baseline and a continuous non-fading year count
✔ Prepared original music prompts and era-specific ASMR direction
