Nepal is a land caught between heaven and earth.
Home to Mount Everest, the Himalayas, ancient temples, deep valleys, powerful rivers, glaciers, and communities that have lived among some of the highest mountains on Earth for generations.
But Nepal is more than a country of beautiful mountain landscapes.
The Himalayas shape almost every part of life here — from geography and climate to rivers, agriculture, transportation, culture, religion, tourism, and the communities living in remote mountain valleys.
In this documentary, we journey through Nepal and explore the extraordinary world beneath the Himalayan sky.
We begin in the Kathmandu Valley and travel upward through forests, hills, alpine landscapes, glaciers, and the enormous mountain system surrounding Mount Everest.
We explore how the Himalayas were formed by the collision of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, why these mountains continue to change, and how snow and glaciers high above Nepal feed rivers that sustain millions of people far beyond the mountains.
We also explore the lives and traditions of Himalayan communities, including the Sherpa people, and the complicated relationship between human civilization and the mountains they call home.
Because the Himalayas do not only give life.
They can also become dangerous.
On August 26, 2026, severe flooding and debris flows affected communities along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river corridors in Nepal.
The disaster damaged roads, bridges, homes, hydropower infrastructure, and vital transportation routes.
Scientific investigations have examined whether a rapid slope failure involving a glacier contributed to the event, while researchers continue studying the exact geological sequence.
The disaster revealed a powerful truth about Nepal:
Something can happen high in a remote Himalayan valley...
and its consequences can travel many kilometers downstream.
A peaceful river can become a torrent.
A mountain slope can collapse.
Ice and rock can suddenly begin moving downhill.
And communities living far below can have very little time to respond.
This is the deeper story of Nepal.
A country between lowland and high mountain.
Between ancient traditions and modern life.
Between extraordinary beauty and extraordinary danger.
Between the silence of snow and the roar of moving water.
This is Nepal — the Kingdom Between Heaven and Earth.
