10 Predictions for the Future of Astrophotography

Astrophotography has changed enormously over the last 10 years — but what will it look like 10 or 15 years from now? In this video, I take a look at the future of amateur astronomy and make some predictions about where astrophotography could be heading. From smarter and fully automated telescopes to AI-powered imaging, automatic polar alignment, self-calibrating mounts, computational photography, adaptive optics and increasingly powerful cameras, the technology is changing at an incredible pace. But there's a bigger question… Are we heading towards a future where you simply tell your telescope what you want to photograph, press a button and come back the next morning to a finished image? And if we can automate almost everything, do we risk losing some of the skill, learning and individuality that makes astrophotography so rewarding?
