Malachi speaks to people who rebuilt the temple but let their hearts go cold. They are still showing up, but bringing God their leftovers. These are the last words of the Old Testament, and then heaven goes quiet for 400 years. ABOUT MALACHI Malachi means "my messenger." Little is known about the prophet himself, and some scholars read the name as a title rather than a personal name. He preached in Judah after the exile, probably around 460–430 BC, so the dates are approximate. That puts him in the time of Ezra and Nehemiah, when the Second Temple was standing but worship had become empty. The book is built as a series of disputes: God makes a statement, the people push back with "How?", and God answers them. Malachi closes the Book of the Twelve and the Old Testament. The Gospels open by pointing back to it, naming John the Baptist as the promised messenger and the coming Elijah. Themes • God's unchanging love (1:2; 3:6) • Honouring God with our best, not our leftovers (1:6–14) • Faithfulness in marriage and covenant (2:10–16) • The messenger who prepares the way (3:1; 4:5) • God remembers those who fear Him (3:16; 4:2) CHAPTER BY CHAPTER Malachi 1: God opens with "I have loved you," says the LORD (1:2). He then confronts the priests for offering blind, lame and sick animals: "But if I am a father, where is My honor?" (1:6). Even so, "My name will be great among the nations" (1:11). Malachi 2: God warns the priests who have turned from His covenant with Levi, a covenant of life and peace (2:1–9). He calls out broken faith between brothers and between husbands and wives: "Do we not all have one Father?" (2:10) and "For I hate divorce," says the LORD, the God of Israel (2:16). The people keep asking, "Where is the God of justice?" (2:17) Malachi 3: God answers: "Behold, I will send My messenger, who will prepare the way before Me" (3:1). He comes to refine His people like silver. "Because I, the LORD, do not change, you descendants of Jacob have not been destroyed" (3:6). He calls them to "Bring the full tithe into the storehouse" and test Him (3:10). For those who fear Him, "a scroll of remembrance was written before Him" (3:16). Malachi 4: The Day of the LORD burns like a furnace for the proud. For those who fear His name, "the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings" (4:2). The Old Testament ends with a promise: "Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet" (4:5), "And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children" (4:6). ---------------- ❓ FAQs Is it AI? Yes - the music is AI generated. But the family behind Rhythm & Bible are musicians and Bible teachers. 📖 Bible Translation: We use the BSB — the Berean Standard Bible. Available on most Bible apps. Think modern word-for-word translation that reads like the ESV 🌱 How'd you start? This is a channel for our family first. We wanted our children to love and learn the Word — we started bringing Scripture into the musical genres we already loved. What began as a family mission became a channel. 🎯 The Goal: To make the Word of God — and theological and devotional resources — accessible through music.
