ABOUT THE TRACK: There was no closing ceremony. No tearful farewell. No final bell. One ordinary evening, your mom called you in for dinner, you put down the sidewalk chalk, left your bike in the grass, and simply never went back outside to play again. "The Clock Stopped Ticking" is a haunting, cinematic indie-folk / country-pop ballad about the quietest heartbreak of human life: the day childhood ended without anyone realizing it was the last time. Set against fading streetlights, suburban cul-de-sacs, and overgrown tire swings, this track mourns the ghost of a season that vanished without saying goodbye. --- LYRICS: [Verse 1] The streetlights were our only ticking clock Racing our bicycles around the block Scraped up our knees and wore them like a badge Sneaking through the neighbor's overgrown patch Mom called from the porch, said dinner was done We promised we’d finish before tomorrow’s sun [Pre-Chorus] Nobody rings a bell when a chapter is through Nobody tells you that the world's moving past you [Chorus] There was a day we played outside for the very last time Put down the chalk, stepped over the line Walked through the front door and washed off the dirt Never knowing how much growing older would hurt No grand finale, no tear in our eye Just a ghost of a season that didn't say goodbye [Verse 2] Now the cul-de-sac is parked with minivans and sedans The woods behind the creek got sold to builders with plans I look through the fence at the tire on the tree Rotted through with weather where we used to be free I can’t even remember the game we were playing Or the very last words that we ended up saying [Pre-Chorus] Nobody rings a bell when a chapter is through You just wake up one morning with nothing left to undo [Chorus] There was a day we played outside for the very last time Put down the chalk, stepped over the line Walked through the front door and washed off the dirt Never knowing how much growing older would hurt No grand finale, no tear in our eye Just a ghost of a season that didn't say goodbye [Bridge] If I knew that Tuesday was the final round I would’ve stayed on the swing, kept my feet off the ground I would’ve held onto the cardboard, refused to go home Before we all traded the yard for a phone [Outro] The sun went down. The porch light clicked. And without even knowing… The clock stopped ticking for the kids.
