Carl Bohm - Quartet for 4 violins

Bohm was famous in his lifetime and was considered to be in the same league as Schubert. However his fame diminished after his death in 1920 and little of his catalogue of around 400 works is now played, apart from a few works used for practice and tuition. This is a shame since compositions are wonderful - light but not banal, with intrigue and sophistication. This quartet is no exception. I love the tempo direction on this piece - allegro comodo - which translates as 'comfortably quickly'. It seems a relatively straightforward piece but the semiquaver sections have a sting in the tail for those that choose to play it uncomfortably quickly! I hope you enjoy it!
