In this episode we hike through the first half of Shenandoah National Park. The first day we climb up over Blackrock, the first truly spectacular view in the park. We find an unmarked tentsite at mile 888.8 and wake up there on our 88th day of hiking (what a coincidence!). On the 3rd of July we hike past many more impressive viewpoints, the 900 mile marker, resupply at the camp store, and see an enormous Luna moth. At the summit of Hightop Mountain we catch a fiery sunset followed by countless firework shows lighting up the entire valley. The next day we continue to make our way through the park, struggling with long water carries and an unexpectedly turned-off water spigot. We avoid a quick downpour at another camp store before climbing Bearfence for another epic sunset and even more fireworks shows for the 4th of July. These were some of our best days on the entire trail,. The beauty of Shenandoah, frequent camp stores for resupply, cooler weather, and incredible fireworks shows made for an unforgettable experience.
Tune in next week as we keep camping next to sunset vistas as we hike through the second half of the park!
