Live recording from the Romanian Athenaeum – Ateneul Român – in Bucharest on 10 January 2020. Alexander Krichel (b. 1989) Lullaby Alexander Krichel, piano Lullaby is one of my most personal compositions. I wrote it in memory of a very dear friend from Caracas, Venezuela – one of those rare people whose friendship and belief can change the course of another person’s life. He opened the doors to South America for me and helped create connections and friendships that continue to shape both my life and my musical journey. Bucharest, too, is a city with which I share a deeply personal bond since childhood. Performing this piece in the epic atmosphere of the Romanian Athenaeum therefore felt as though several important strands of my life were meeting in one place. In 2027, it will be fifteen years since my friend's passing. Sharing this live performance as that anniversary approaches is my way of remembering his warmth, generosity and trust – and of allowing the music written for him to continue its journey.
