Fear Is Not the Whole Story | Rewriting the Way I Live Ep. 8

Before I went to Mexico, I was given plenty of reasons to be afraid. Some of them were real. For context: I travelled to Mexico in October 2025. This episode reflects what I was seeing, questioning, and carrying with me at that time. I started questioning what happens when danger becomes the loudest story we tell about an entire country and when fear begins shaping the way we see entire groups of people. While I was in Mexico, the ICE raids were still happening back home in Los Angeles. As a California native who is half Mexican, that felt personal. I believe countries can have borders and immigration laws. I also believe human rights belong to human beings. Dehumanization begins when difference starts to mean lesser worth when “they are different from us” quietly becomes “they don’t deserve what we deserve.” This is the opening to Episode 8 of Rewriting the Way I Live and the beginning of my Mexico story. I arrived carrying all of those questions. But more than anything, I arrived curious, respectful, and incredibly excited to finally experience the country my ancestors came from for myself.
