The year is 334 BC. Alexander the Great has crossed into the Persian Empire with a small army — and a larger force is waiting for him on the far bank of the Granicus River.
Darius's satraps lined the high bank, sure of victory. Their horsemen held the crossing; their numbers told them this was a massacre in the making.
But Alexander was not here to fight a fair battle.
He plunged his Companion Cavalry straight into the river, straight up the bank, and straight into the Persian line — a charge so reckless it nearly killed him. In the chaos that followed, the young king came within moments of death before his cavalry broke through and the Persian army began to collapse.
This is the cinematic story of Alexander's first great battle in Asia — the gamble that should have killed him, and instead began the conquest of an empire.
