Wondering what the road conditions look like heading into Texas’s newest state park? Experience the full, unbroken 4K scenic drive to Post Oak Ridge State Park—cruising down County Road 105 through remote Hill Country ranchlands, past open-range cattle guards, through the security gate, and down the 2.5-mile unpaved interior park road. WATCH THE FULL HIKING VIDEO HERE: THE AREA: Located along the Lampasas and Burnet County lines in the Central Texas Hill Country, this route takes you off the paved blacktop of FM 1478 near the historic community of Naruna and plunges into classic rural Texas. It is working ranch country defined by live oak canopies, rolling limestone pastureland, rustic cedar-post fences, and open-range livestock. THE NEW PARK & ACCESS: Spanning 3,118 acres above the Colorado River canyon, Post Oak Ridge State Park opened with limited day-use reservations. Access requires an advance reservation code to open the automated security gate arm. The park is currently in its initial opening phase, featuring no running water or electricity, vault toilets, and an unpaved interior road system. THE DRIVE & ROAD CONDITIONS: This unbroken hood-mounted drive documents the entire approach so you know exactly what to expect before you go: • County Road 105 (Vann Rd): ~4.5 miles of narrow, single-lane caliche and asphalt transition. Expect multiple cattle guards, blind rolling crests, and free-roaming livestock (including an unexpected standoff with a local miniature horse!). • Security Gate: Keypad entry for reservation holders. • Interior Park Road: A 2.5-mile newly graded crushed limestone road carving through post oak savanna to the day-use trailhead parking loop. Easily accessible for standard 2WD passenger vehicles and sedans, but dusty with loose gravel.
