There may be not much interest these days in a novel that was written over 50 years ago. But Watership Down by Richard Adams is such a fantastic book! I read it as a teenager, I've read it aloud to my family, and recently we listened to it on Audible. I'm amazed every time to be reminded that it's not only a good story but also really good writing. (And the 70's Rankin-Bass cartoon is a worthwhile adaptation as well.) So my song is a tribute, and it's also "a true story about a fictional story". On a trip to southern England in 2018, we made it a point to visit the actual place of Watership Down, and this song is about that experience as well as about the book itself. I won't say anything further about the book here, because I think the song says it all. I wrote most of this song in one afternoon, which is a neat groove to be in. The uke I'm playing is a Kanile'a Oha (1stGen) tenor. © 2026 All Rights Reserved
