Is Kids’ Space in Huntsville Still Here? 😳 | Rediscovering Huntsville

On this episode of Rediscovering Huntsville, I’m going back in time and searching for one of the places connected to my childhood — the old Kids’ Space playground on Airport Road in Huntsville, Alabama. 🛝❤️ For many Huntsville families, Kids’ Space wasn’t just a playground. The original wooden playground at John Hunt Park was built by community volunteers in just six days more than 25 years ago, becoming a favorite destination for generations of children. Over time, the aging wooden structure required more repairs, and Huntsville eventually decided it was time for a complete transformation. 🚗 Come ride with me as I return to the area, search for the playground I remember, and see just how much this part of Huntsville has changed. Today, Kids’ Space has been completely redesigned as an inclusive playground for children of different ages and abilities. It reopened in September 2023 with three themed areas celebrating Huntsville’s past, present, and future — including Early Huntsville, the Space Race, and Future Exploration. Features include a sky bridge, ropes course, large slides, play structures, shade areas, seating and more. And here’s another piece of Huntsville history: John Hunt Park itself sits on land that was once home to Huntsville’s airport, making this entire area a fascinating part of the city’s transformation. 💭 Do you remember the OLD Kids’ Space?
