Why can a robot with a good motor still miss its target? A small movement inside a joint can become a much larger error at the gripper. In Lesson 3 of our SCARA robot mechanical design course, we look inside joints, shafts and bearings. Animated 3D cutaways show how loads travel through the shaft, bearing rings and housing, and why bearing spacing, fits and preload matter. We compare bearing types, calculate support reactions and shaft stress, and connect a small angle error to tool position. You will also see what to check during assembly and how bearing clearance differs from drive backlash. Clear English and worked examples guide each step. Chapters 00:00 Why can a good motor miss? 00:51 Radial, axial and moment loads 01:35 How a bearing works 02:20 Match bearing type to the task 03:10 Bearing spacing and moment resistance 04:00 Check the shaft 04:54 Fits and axial location 05:46 Preload, heat and backlash 06:40 Assemble without damage 07:31 From joint error to tool error Watch Lesson 1: How a SCARA Robot Works    • SCARA Robot Basics: Four Axes, Motors and ...   Next lesson: motors, encoders and servo drives. Which would you check first if a robot missed its target: the motor, the bearing arrangement or the shaft connection? Tell us why in the comments. The video uses original educational models and simplified calculations. It does not represent a specific manufacturer's robot or a certified bearing selection.
