Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells (1973) - "Bagpipe Guitars" - Isolated Guitars & Other Instruments

Isolated guitars & other instruments from "Bagpipe Guitars" (as it was called on Tubular Bells 2003) back to back for practice purposes. Mike Oldfield created his iconic "bagpipe guitar" tone on Tubular Bells (1973) by plugging his 1966 Fender Telecaster directly into the mixing desk. He used a custom-built, plywood fuzz distortion unit known as the "Glorfindel box". He layered multiple guitar tracks a fourth below or a fifth above to simulate bagpipe harmonies and a continuous drone. The classic tone can be recreated using modern equipment with the following setup: Guitar: Use a bright single-coil guitar (like a Stratocaster or Telecaster) and select the bridge pickup. Fuzz/Overdrive: Use a high-gain fuzz pedal (such as a Big Muff) combined with a tube-style overdrive to achieve a warm, heavily sustained, and compressed tone. Pitch Shifter: Set an octave or harmony pedal (a fifth above or fourth below) to mimic the interplay of a traditional bagpipe chanter and drone. Modulation & Delay: Add a very slow, subtle phaser and a short, light delay to create that sweeping, chorused drone effect.
