We explore the personal stories behind the names carved into the headstones, reflecting on the sacrifices made by a generation during the battles around Bapaume and the wider Somme offensive. Leaving the busy battlefield roads behind, we travel along the quiet narrow lanes to Stump Road Cemetery, where drone footage reveals the peaceful countryside surrounding this small but poignant resting place. From above, the rows of graves sit silently within the fields that once echoed with artillery and battle. Our final stop takes us into the calm woodland surroundings of Aveluy Wood Cemetery, a place of extraordinary peace and beauty. Hidden among the trees, these graves remind us of the men who fought and fell in the battles around Aveluy and the Somme valley.
