The surprise ride to Nebraska

This time, the week starts on Sunday, August 30. My pre-loaded trailer has since been taken to my home terminal in Saint John. After completing the pre-trip with the tractor and trailer, it's off to Ruther Glen, Virginia, a good hour south of Washington DC. Unloading appointment September 1 at 10:00 PM. After 2 days of driving a good 850 km a day, that is no problem. I arrive at 8:00 PM only to find out that the receiving area doesn't open until 9:45 PM. Once empty, I went to stand in the back corner to take the rest of my 10 hours of rest. In the meantime, I've already received a pre-plan: loading at Caterpillar Pennsylvania. Last rush load departing at 8:30 PM and unloading at Caterpillar Concord on September 02 at 6:00 AM. So, driving through the night nicely. 780 km. Once empty, off to the Concord terminal, waiting for a plan. The next morning, the question comes up whether I feel like driving the tractor unit to Wayne, Nebraska to pick up a new trailer at Great Dane. Of course we want to... So on 09/03, I start a 1057m/1700km drive with the tractor unit. Once over the Ambassador Bridge, I arrive in Detroit. From here, it goes through Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, and Iowa to Nebraska. Arriving in Wayne at Great Dane (where it is still 102f/39C for a bit), where there are still several trailers waiting. I take one of them with me. On the return trip, I also have to stop briefly at the largest truck stop in the world, the IOWA 80, a parking lot good for 900 trucks. There is a large store with every necessity you can imagine. Chrome, mattresses, refrigerators, CB material, you name it, they have it. On the other hand, various restaurants, shops, dentist, chiropractor, hairdresser, laundromat, and showers. Just everything a driver needs when he is on the road for 3 months. After 2 hours, it is time for me to start the return journey. The truck museum will have to wait for next time. Back in Brampton, with the new trailer lined up, it is bedtime again. Monday morning, 09/07, at 6 o'clock, heading home. Still another 1600 km.
