Michael Ludgrove, the art curator to the Maharaja of Mysore, a man with five decades in the world of art and a true living gem, sat down with The Other India for a chat. The conversation brought out his rich knowledge and depth of experience, gathered over the years at Christie’s in London, Australia and the Maharaja’s Palace. He has every reason to brag about his career, having worked with rare manuscripts, books and precious sports memorabilia belonging to international cricketers and F1 champions, to name a few. Yet, he speaks about it all with utmost humility. Today, much of his time is spent at Bangalore Palace, which is his office, at Balaji Antiques and Collectibles with his dear friend Balaji, and in Australia, where his family resides. He hopes that the youth learns more deeply about the world of art and antiques, especially as interest in them is steadily declining. His advice? Read, learn and understand the context behind what makes certain pieces truly precious. Watch the full conversation with Michael Ludgrove to hear his stories, insights and advice from a career in which he has truly done it all.
