Pizza Month rolls on, and the Bros hit the road to Cape Cod. Except they don’t, because Cape Cod Cafe isn’t on Cape Cod. It’s in Brockton, Massachusetts, where a roadside stop turned a 10-inch pan into a South Shore tradition. This week: Cape Cod Cafe Cheese Pizza. The story: Cape Cod Cafe opened in 1939 in a former funeral home (ghost stories included) on the road to the Cape. In 1947, a newly returned WWII veteran named E. James “Papa” Jamoulis bought it and added pizza to the menu. Three generations later, the family still runs it and claims to have invented bar pizza. The frozen pies hit freezers in 2011. Plus: Is pizza highbrow or lowbrow? Massachusetts-made foods. Where’s the South Shore? The pizza nobody asked for. A serving-size debate over math that should not have taken so long.
