Surrounded by snow-capped Himalayan peaks, dense deodar forests, apple orchards, and traditional wooden houses, it is often called the “Dev Bhoomi” (Land of the Gods). Kullu sits at an altitude of about 1,200 meters and is famous for: Scenic landscapes and river views, Adventure activities like river rafting and trekking, Handwoven Kullu shawls Ancient temples and local deities But what truly makes Kullu special is its deep-rooted spiritual culture, where every village has its own deity (devta), and traditions are still followed with devotion and pride. Kullu Dussehra : A celebration like any other - Unlike the rest of India, where Dussehra ends with the burning of Ravana effigies, Kullu Dussehra begins on the day of Vijayadashami. This week-long international festival is centered around Lord Raghunath Ji (a form of Lord Rama). The tradition dates back to the 17th century when Raja Jagat Singh installed the idol of Lord Raghunath as the ruling deity of Kullu. What Makes It Unique? 1. Gathering of Deities - More than 200–300 local gods and goddesses from nearby villages travel in beautifully decorated palanquins to Kullu. It becomes a grand spiritual congregation rarely seen anywhere else in the world. 2. Royal Procession - The idol of Lord Raghunath Ji is carried in a magnificent procession to the Dhalpur Maidan, accompanied by traditional music, drums, and dancing devotees. 3. No Burning of Ravana - Instead of symbolic destruction, the festival focuses on devotion, unity, and celebration of divine presence. 4. Cultural Extravaganza - The festival features: Folk dances like Nati Traditional music performances Handicraft exhibitions International cultural participation In this episode, being the first episode, we start our journey from Delhi to Kullu to be part of the celebrations in Kullu Dussehra.
