Written in 2024 through a national commissioning consortium, Turbulent Flames captures the intensity and volatility of fire as both a destructive and transformative force. The work unfolds with surging energy, vivid color, and relentless drive, moving between crackling intensity and lyrical moments of renewal. Meyer first came to prominence as a violist before emerging as a composer known for emotional directness, stylistic range, and music that explores the extremes of human emotion. In Turbulent Flames, her music feels urgent, fierce, and ultimately cathartic. PYP is proud to be part of the national consortium that commissioned this bold new work.
