Kahar, Dhimar, Kevat, Nishad: The true story of displaced Kashyap Rajputs

This video delves into the glorious history, origins, and social development of the Kashyap community. Many sub-castes of the Kashyap community—such as Kahar, Dhimar, Dhivar, Kevat, Nishad, Mallah, Mehra, Mahror, etc.—traditionally consider themselves descendants of Maharishi Kashyap. Maharishi Kashyap was one of the great sages of the Vedic period, one of the Saptarishis (seven sages), considered the ancestor of many clans and lineages. It describes how, due to medieval wars, foreign invasions, and political changes, many Kshatriya and Rajput clans were deprived of their kingdoms, positions, and power and were forced to take up occupations such as water services, boating, fishing, carrying loads, and carrying palanquins to earn a living. Over time, these communities came to be known by names such as Kahar, Dhimar, Kevat, Nishad, Mallah, etc., which many scholars associate with a displaced or transformed Kshatriya (Rajput) tradition. The video presents in simple language the origins of the Mehra/Mahror clan, their relationship with the Chauhan Rajputs, folk tales related to Prithviraj Chauhan, the story of King Tilokchand, and events related to the antiquity of the Dhivar-Kahar caste.
