Why Did Jesus Speak in Parables? He Said It Was to Keep People From Seeing

Jesus gave a reason for speaking in parables, and it is not the reason most of us were taught. Luke wrote it down without softening it: "Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see." In the Greek, the word at the hinge is hina, the word for purpose. Not for how a thing happened to turn out, but for what it was aimed at. Mark puts the same word in the same place. So the hard reading is not a misreading. It is also not the whole passage. This video takes that sentence seriously, and then follows it to where it ends. Matthew, reporting the same afternoon at the same lake, wrote a different conjunction: hoti, "because" - which is much of why this argument never settles. Underneath all three sits Isaiah 6, an oracle heavier than its summaries, handed to a prophet who did not take it in silence. Ad-matay, Adonai. How long, Lord. He asked for a length, and he was given one. And the chapter that hands a prophet the work of shutting eyes does not end on empty cities. It ends on a cut stump with zera qodesh, holy seed, still alive inside it. Then, ten verses later, in the same sitting, on the same shore, Mark uses that same small purpose word again - pointing the other way. There is nothing hid, except in order that it should be revealed. This video does not rule on who the mysteries are given to, and it does not tell you which side of the passage you are standing on.
