"Today we're doing rondos." If your child's coach said that and you weren't sure what it meant, this lesson is for you. A rondo (said RON-doh) is a keep-away game: a few players stand around the outside and pass the ball while one or two defenders in the middle try to win it. Think monkey in the middle, but with a soccer purpose.

In this short animated lesson for parents and volunteer coaches, you'll see why it's called a rondo, the simple 4v1 rules, and the four things kids learn every time they play one: look before the ball arrives, open your body, move to make a passing lane, and pass and move. Then there's a five-second "your turn" question, a rondo you can play at home with just two people, an easy team progression (3v1, 4v1, 4v2, with several rondos side by side so nobody waits), why Barcelona is connected to rondos, and what a rondo looks like in a real 11v11 game.
The lesson in one sentence: a rondo is a keep-away game with a purpose, where everyone learns to look, move and decide together.
